Dear Prayer Igniter
HITCHHIKING TO HEAVEN?
Remember your First Love! Part 2
Let Us Pray Now!
“Oh Lord, as I read how You used individuals along Colin’s life journey to bring him to You, would You spark my heart to start a more intentional and consistent sharing of my faith with others, in Jesus name, amen.”
Oh Precious One, I beseech you to take 10 minutes right now and honestly evaluate your saltiness for Christ in the world around you.
Do the saltiness test on the next page!
Why do I plead with you so passionately? Because there could be other individuals sharing the gospel out there next month due to your witness to them this month! Your love action can count, no matter who you are, how old you are, what your station in life, or where your position in Christ is today!
Remember your First Love!
Will you read how 4 simple acts of obedience from ordinary people caused me to totally surrender to the Lordship of Jesus Christ in my life?
I grew up in Rhodesia, (Now Zimbabwe) as a cultural Christian in a wonderfully close and loving family attending church regularly. In the seventies we were in an intense anti terrorist warfare and like my 2 brothers and my Dad served time in this war.
After a rigorous officer training school I was commissioned as a Gun Position Officer into the Rhodesian Artillery, then sent to South Africa for specialized training. It was on a live firing 3-week desert exercise that I praise God for the boldness of one young man who approached me between firing exercises with this question: “Do you know what it means to be saved through Jesus Christ?” I had no idea what he was talking about and rebuffed him saying: “I don’t want to know about that stuff,” then turned and walked off.
The huge fact remains that God used that 18-year old to mark my heart in remembrance. I don’t think his approach was the best but he shared his faith, he stepped through probable fear and when I looked back 10 years later, I praised God for that young man and I never forgot that 15 second interaction!
Who Are Your Salavtion Markers?
Say thank you to the ones in your life.
Express thanks and praise to God for them.
In 1980 I took a year to hitchhike from Cape Town to London. In the early part of my trip, a young man gave me a ride. He asked me if I knew what it meant to be saved? Ernie had me as a captive audience in his car and over the next two hours shared the gospel message with me and I prayed with him to accept Jesus as my Lord. Ernie did an excellent follow up job. He sent me a bible, with tracks and a follow up discipleship plan.
Now, although the Lord had not yet gotten a total hold of my heart, I was getting a whole lot closer!
In last month’s Ignite I shared how God literally moved heaven and earth to bring my Sweetie’s and my lives together. (See our website archives) Praise God, my precious Nancy, like me, thought I was a Christian; otherwise she might not have married me! I do confess in my early years in America I got into new age thinking, walked a bed of red hot fire coals with Tony Robins and read Shirley McLean books! It was my Sweetie’s quiet strong love for our Lord that God used to woo my heart. Finally in 1988 I surrendered to Jesus while in my car outside Conroe listening to Marlon Maddox on Point of View Radio!
